Call to Action: 10th Annual Miles for Midwives.
Saturday, October 6 2012 marks the 10th annual miles for midwives! The 10th Annual Miles for Midwives 5K Fun-Run and Birth & Wellness Fair brings together runners, families and midwifery supporters for a fun day devoted to maternity care improvement and community wellness. Over the past 10 years, Miles for Midwives has worked hard to provide universal access to midwifery care through legislation like the Midwifery Modernization Act (2010).
Participants of all ages are welcome and encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to celebrate the 10th anniversary. Proceeds from this event benefit the work of the NYC Midwives and Choices in Childbirth to improve maternity care in our community.

Choices in Childbirth is a non-profit organization that is a national leader in consumer advocacy and outreach for women and their families. They believe that every woman deserves a safe, respectful and deeply fulfilling birth experience. They help women make informed decisions about where, how and with whom to birth and ensure that they have access to the full range of birth options. Its crucial that American women maintain access to skilled midwives. As a mother who had four ‘natural’ deliveries, using a midwife in a hospital setting, I can tell you that this experience helped shape who I was and how I felt about myself as a mother.
I also believe their method of ‘natural’ delivery was optimal for their good health
Many hospitals in NYC don’t encourage the use of midwives or doulas and we need to work together to change that. Thank you for this important information!
