Is This Normal? –How Mindful Parenting Brings Us Out Of Fear And Into The Present. The birth of a new baby often triggers a mix of powerful emotions. Although this time may come with excitement and joy, it also involves overwhelming feelings, confusion around sense of self, as well as a unique shift in one’s primary relationship. Finding balance and support during this time is essential for a healthy transition. A mindful parenting group provides a safe place where mothers can talk about their current struggles, share experiences with each other, and learn strategies to be more attune, empathic, and responsive to their children. Discussion topics include: infants emotional needs as well as developmental needs. Within the mindfulness based practice, incorporating attachment (e.g., strategies to help with affect regulation) and relaxation techniques (e.g., deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, fun toolboxes). Research has demonstrated that positive early attachment improves a child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and academic development.
