• MOTHER THE JOB: multi-media exhibit by San Francisco based artist Alexia Nye Jackson. Intro to a brief herstory of the women’s movement, leading into this exhibit that compares paid labor to mother labor – which is free.
• Black & white photos showing what various jobs pay, as compared to the tasks mothers and caregivers perform.
• 17 minute film, ‘All Day’ in answer to the question, ‘What did you do all day’?
• Virtue boxes, comparing ‘human capital’ to ‘economic capital’ and the values caregivers instill.
• Take a good look at yourself and mothers and ask, “Can we do any better”?
• ‘MOMS ROCK’ Exhibit: featuring Housewives On Prozac (the band) and some of the rockin’ women of Mamapalooza! Watch the film, ‘Momz Hot Rocks’ by Kate Perotti.
• WRITE OUT LOUD: chalkboard. Share your stories, happy, sad, expressive. What does motherhood mean to you? Also, Greif-fitti wall, where stories of grief and loss create a path to healing.
• SUFFRAGETTE PANEL: read about these activist moms and get inspired!
• SENECA FALLS: turn of the Century Parlor. While the Suffragettes were rocking the vote, women were holding down the domestic front.
• EQUAL RIGHTS MARCH: Washington DC. Learn about these power-women of the 1960s.
• PLAY AREA
• APPLE TREE: Examines Shel Silverstein’s book, The Giving Tree with a lesson plan executed by Sitters Studio, as conceived by Joy Rose, examining ‘Caring & Sharing’ values. How can we learn to share, while caring about ourselves too? Learning boundaries and values about ourselves and Motherhood, this is a life lesson for everyone. Interactive art for kids with a take-away project.
